Anyone else got really wide feet?

Mine are more like bloody flippers than feet and I have a real problem finding cycling shoes that fit well. Buying regular shoes is fine because I just buy a 12 instead of an 11 ...but when you’re cycling clipless you pull with the feet as well as push so you can’t afford too much movement in the shoe. I have the same problem with ski boots.

My current road shoes have worn out and to be honest they were never perfect, they were the entry level Time model with the two Velcro fastenings and I ride with the lower Velcro strap effectively undone.

The reason for the post is to see if anyone else suffers from the same problem and if so how you solved it and whether you could recommend a brand/model that can accommodate my flipper feet.

Thanks in advance!

I believe Shimano and Lake both offer wide sizing but usually only available by special order. Northwave are supposed to be slightly wider than most and Sidi has the "Mega" width versions. I have some Mega's and would classify them as only slightly wider than normal so maybe not quite wide enough for you. And as mentioned already, Specialized are roomier than most. Try contacting some different manufacturers since they don't always make it known that they offer wide sizes.

I would also advise looking at Specialized.

I have quite wide feet and have found the Specialized shoes suit me fine - I have 3 pairs. You will almost certainly need to go for a size bigger than you normally would though. I take a size 11 usually but have to go for a 47/12 in cycling shoes.

The other advantage is that their range is extensive and they are widely available.

    Good luck!

    Gary.
Oh and I feel like I've been raped by an Orangutan  And I've got legs like Girders
  • I have really wide feet.

Length of my feet is around a size 8, but width is around a size 10. Northwave in 44 fit perfectly.
  • Hi,

+1 for Northwave shoes. I am usually a 45 in everyday shoes and found the 47 in Northwave to fit very well. I bought these to replace a pair of Specialized, which had ample room in the toe area but not for the width of my foot. I ended up having horrendous pain and struggled to unclip when doing rides of 50 miles or more.

I bought these which are very comfortable & look pretty good:

    Another vote for specialized...

I have wide feet and had problems finding anything to fit me well.

These do the job nicely though:-

I've got size 10 in normal shoe size but have to wear 13s to account for the width.....which means after a while most of my shoes begin to curl at the end like elf shoes!!!

I'm using some 46 specialized shoes, seems to be the biggest I can go in width without having too much spare room at the front. Hurts my feet for the first 20 - 30 mins of a ride but then starts to wear off....might try some of those shimano or lake wider ones if I can find an LBS with them in!

+1 Northwave. I have not tried Specialised, but it sounds like these are the two choices. Sidi are fantastic shoes if you can afford them, but I cannot comment on the 'mega' fit.
