I have just recently bought a shimano 105 octalink crankset and i am wondering what bottom bracket would fit into it? I have seen some but I am very confused about all the measurements, can someone please clarify these please?

Here are some bb's I have found:

Thanks

You need to say whether your crankset is a double or a triple and whether your frame is Italian or English thread.

I know there are some exceptions to this, but I think that in the main I'm right in saying tha with the Octalink system:

If the crankset is a double, you need a spindle length of 109.5mm and if it's a triple you need a spindle length of 118mm.

If your frame has Italian thread you need a 70mm shell width and if it has English thread you need a 68mm shell width.

So, presuming your crankset is a double and your frame has an English thread, the 68-109 bottom bracket in the Wiggle link will do fine.

you need a BB with the short splines (V1), not the long splines (V2) illustrated in the first two links you posted.

Either 105, Ultegra, Dura Ace (or indeed XTR)

As the previous poster said, 109mm for double and 118mm for triple, on a 68mm shell (unless you have an unusual frame)

  • Ah thank you very much for the information, it's very helpful :)
How do i tell if it's English or Italian thread? It is a Saracen frame so I'm guessing it would be English...

    Thanks again

    it'll be 68mm, English thread

just measure it if you're in any doubt (but I'm not 8) )

  • So just to check, i should go for the 68-109 bottom bracket from wiggle?
