I'm looking to get a new set of wheels for my cyclocross bike. Although I do not ride it in competition it gets a beating off road across the local mountain bridalways, and I ride it to work when the snow and ice set in. The current wheels have a low spoke count 20/24 I think and have stayed true-ish since I've had them, it's just the hubs which have knackered up.

I've been looking at getting either an easton ea70 wheelset, or ultegra open pro build. I have a set of reynolds solitudes on my road bike and think these are great but would prefer something more in the price range of the ea70's or cheaper. Any suggestions appreiciated!

I've got some Fulcrum race 3's on the cross bike and very impressed
Currently £315 a pair from Merlin cycles
  • I have a pair of racing 7's on my winter road bike and hate them, their sluggish climbing, and take a while to get up to speed, I thought they were ok when you get them rolling. How do you find the 3's when climbing, I'm guessing their a lot lighter than 7's.

They are very nimble, look good and strong. Flat spokes as well which look nice
Not tried the 7's but don't think they are in the same league and certainly a lot heavier
I'm actually looking to get a 2nd pair to put on the road bike.
Plenty of good reviews on them

I've got a pair of 32hole campag hubs handbuilt onto Mavic OpenPro's with 32mm tyres. Never had a problem but the fella who built the wheels knew what he was doing.
