They forgot to put any science in it..."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0 -
Why is all the supposed rear suspension claims when the spring action is actually fitted and secured in the middle of the frame rather than the genuine rear ...

your rear brake lever is on the handlebars.....Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.0

ok i undersand the issues that the various designs try to solve in one way or another, but what about leverage ratios? how does the leverage ration affect the suspension action, and more importantly the ride feel?Fancy a brew?0
-
The lower the leverage ratio, the lower the pressure is needed in a shock - this can translate into smoother performance. Also the damper goes through a longer stroke increasing its effectiveness.0

ok
so using an example here my meta has 140mm of rear wheel travel and the shock has a 50mm stroke, the ration between these is 140:50 or 2.8:1 now is that the leverage ratio or am i missing some fundamental principal here?Fancy a brew?0 -
That is the average leverage ratio, yes. It may vary slightly at different points in the travel, but not by much.0
