ive got a nokia 5800 and i really like it.

the camera is ok, nothing special but it works as a really good music player and is excellent at tinternet.

as much as i like my phone, in hindsight i would get an iphone. wife has one and its very good, camera is better than mine and if you have a steady hand it takes decent pics. its by far the better internet phone and works almost as good as my laptop.

May also get missus a cheap contract with standard ish phone because she can never be reached and would be good for peace off mind.

Well you didn't say that did you.

Can the iPhone record video sheepsteeth? I know that they couldn't, that may have been fixed with a "new version" now though.

I'd avoid SE, never been very impressed, the cameras are good, but they don't last long.

Otherwise, just avoid most of the iPhone wannabes, although I've heard good things about the Nokia 5800. But personally I'd go for a HTC Hero or Blackberry.

the new one does i believe.

i like blackberrys but the screen is too small especially when you consider the size of the actual phone.

A mate works for Phones4U (Don't worry, he hates himself for it!) and he's just got the new blackberry, seems like a really good phone, very easy to use, genuinely iPhone-esque. And the alerts for add-ons are all linked to the phone, so when he gets a new facebook alert, the little light that flashes to show a text starts going off, very well integrated with things like Facebook, MSN, email. Plus clever use of the GPS.

But the Hero has the 'apps' and touchscreen like the iPhone, and looks a bit less business-like.

Roll on March 2011, when my contract's up for renewal

the new iphone does record video as well as having a stills camera, though you can now get an app for the older 3g iphone which lets it also record video and only costs 59p

apart from this I love my iphone works well on the internet, e-mail well most things that you can think of really the daughter has the iphone 3g (not 3gs which is the new one) and a blackberry pearl and she much prefers the iphone.

plus it's got gps you can get sports apps that will pretty much turn it into a bike computer, along with maps.

well you get the idea, have I said I love mine best £350 I've spent in a long time.

got the hero myself, straight out the box it may seem a little slow compared to the iphone, but a quick firmware update and it flies. I've been very impressed with it so far. The firmware update also gives you touch focus on the camera

For video id say samsung omnia hd as that does hd or close to it, but for everything else then motorola milestone.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

If you ever want to confuse the fk out of sales people in shops always ask ....

What's your price on a Sat Scrambler works everytime without fail
  • colintrav - if I worked in a mobile phone shop and someone came in and asked for a Sat Scrambler, I wouldn't be confused at all. I'd presume that the person asking was confused, as only an idiot that had escaped from the looney bin would think you can get one in a main street shop

  • Just picked up a W995. Have to say it is doing a good job for me. was looking for a phone with good features that doesn't look too flash (thinking about me not wanting to draw attention to myself when I'm living in Uruguay).

I'd have thought uruguay was safer than coatbridge :D

although in saying that, i think baghdad is safer than yoker

  • It has it's spots (...like Coatbridge does). There were one or two times over there where the wife had to tell me to stop speaking English as that screamed "gringo" to the locals (and I wouldn't have been seen again hahaha)

Anyone got the SE Satio (or something like that)?

My C905 has been great but suddenly won't pick up wifi (new one last week but still no joy) - pretty essential to me.

And no I do NOT want an i-phone...!
  • I had been looking at the Satio but the word on the street is that it doesn't work. crashes all the time and full of bugs. Thats why I went with the W995.

Thinking I'll renew my contract in march and get another phone before disappearing hahaha

Do you use the alarm on your 5800? I find that mine is really random. I set my alarm for 7am every workday morning, and it goes off any time between 6:50 and 7:10  Can't figure out why, but it's p**s irritatin!

better get one with GPS on it.

I am sure the S.A.S will need that when they come looking for you in South America lol

  • I got the Nokia E71 for xmas, and I must say I have been pretty damn impressed with it, a shed load of features (v. similar to the Blackberry) and half the size of an Iphone, GPS, satnav, all of the features that come in handy, comes with a 2gb card (maximum 8gb)

    Worth every penny

5800 here, alarm everymorning works just dandy.

Got the viewranger GPS tracking and ordinance survey maps on it to go hiking and biking and I have to say it's awesome. Processor is a bit slow but it's half the price of the N95 or iPhone. Very happy with it.
Camera is best indoors well lit, or with landscape photos.

But don't get the Satio, it's teribble apparently.

If you want a 'serious' phone (i.e. not just for 'txtin ur m8s'), then the Hero or a Blackberry are the best options.
