I haven't been out on my bike since the Cumbrian Christmas Cracker on Dec 13th! Since then, every day i would have been able to go out it's been minus whatever and/or snowing. I'm wasting away here (apart from my wasteline).

I decided enough was enough this morning and went for a good fast walk up Arthurs Seat and a jog back down. It's going to be a shock when I get back on the bike...
  • yes ;) ive managed 100 miles in the past two weeks :)

I've just done 3 Pyrennean climbs on the Turbo Trainer, and it's probably a better workout than I would get outside. I hate riding when it's this cold. There's no fun in it.

As opposed to all the fun you can have on a turbo?

Mind you, we've got one of those bingo-wing tamer exercise bikes in the gym at the school, it's starting to look more attractive by the day...
  • (now I've got my gloves sussed properly and warm fingertips again) Theres no such thing as cold, only inappropriate clothing.

been riding as normal and enjoying it.

Can you recommend any clothing that helps you stay upright on roads which are like ice-rinks?

Think THAT is why most of us have stayed in NOT because of the temperature per se.

No roads for me or my crew since 20th December. Mind you we've done every Sunday & a weekday night on mtb's.

Sunday was Whacky Races, 12 out in snow, at least 1 off every minute or so. Soft landings though. Plugging through snow takes it outta ya.

Need road miles sharpish mind....Majorca training camp in 5 weeks.

Do they use gravel / sand or salt on the roads over there. Here in this portion of the US
it's pretty much salt on the roads after snow and ice. Works great, but sure can corrode a wide variety of things.

Grit which (I think?) has salt mixed into it. Of course they run out of the stuff faster than a teenage boy 'uses up' a Penthouse mag!

I hear you on the corrosive front too. I lived in Montreal for a while and it did the same thing there. Banff was all sand though which I guess doesn't corrode like salt but has it's own side effects on engines etc.
