Ok I have got down to 2 bikes, they are the 2010 Pinarello FP3 and the 2010 Cannondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra. Both are approx £2000ish.
They are both stunning (imo) and have good solid bits hanging on them but I need some advice.
I mainly use my bikes for long, leasurely rides but also races so want speed and comfort.
Help.

Can't talk about the FP3, but I own a Synapse HM Ultegra and love it...0

Giant produced a load of stats suggesting that the synapse isn't the best balance of stiffness and comfort. They also criticised the fork which they say is whippy and unpredictable when really nailing it in the corners. Obviously they're biased a bit, but they did compare a load of bikes and this one got a lot of stick compared to the majority.
I haven't ridden the synapse enough so can't comment myself.Racing for Fluid Fin Race Team in 2012 - www.fluidfin.co.uk0 -
The Pina for me, not a cannondale fan must admit.0

You may be comparing red apples and yellow apples. Which one do YOU really want.
Both seem like very good, high quality bikes, although I haven't ridden either.0 -
I don't see the choice
Not that I am at all, or in anyway hateful of dull designed and gaudily painted American bikes.God made the Earth. The Dutch made The Netherlands

I am edging torwards the Pinarello but that might just be me being shallow because it is sexy as hell0
-
It's not being shallow - you need to it to really appeal to you if you're shelling out £2k!!
If your heart says yes and your head agrees after a test ride, decision made!0 -
Decisions, decisions - depends on whether you want an American or Italian sticker on your Taiwanese-made frame? The Synapse is more sportive-oriented and you might not be able to achieve as 'racy' a position as the Pinarello.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

FP3 would get my vote, look at it every time I go in evans!0

FP3 for me. I don't think I'd dip lower than the '3 in the Pinarello range though.0
-
I am sure Velo Ecosse in Edinburgh have the FP3 at a very reduced price at the moment in their window. Might be worth a call to help make up your mind 0131 477 2557

Still the Pinarello for me.0 -
Various places are doing the '09 Spesh SL2 frame for £1,250ish at the moment, may be worth calculating a build from that?
Or Salden.nl are (well, were, last time I looked) doing '09 Wilier Izoard frames for about 900 euros (£800) at the moment too, definitely worth a look at a build up for £2k.0 -
When people talk about the lower end Pinarello carbon frames I think of this http://www.bustedcarbon.com/2009/02/pinarello-f413.html0
