PC won't recognise my Garmin 705
Hi,
I've been using my 705 for about a year and have had no problems, but now when I connect the unit to my PC the PC doesn't seem to see the GPS anymore. The 705 just switches itself on as if I've pressed the power button when I connect it.
I've tried looking for an external drive on the PC when it's connected, but nothing appears. I've also updated the Garmin Communicator Plugin, but on the test page it says that no unit is connected.
The only unusual thing I've done recently is connecting the 705 to my brother's PC over xmas. I tried to transfer some data to my Garmin Connect page via his PC and it asked my to down load the Communicator Plugin, which I did. Since then neither my brother's nor my PC has recognised the 705.
Any suggestions how to fix it?
Thanks for your help.

Try the help pages on the Garmin website - always been able to resolve technical issues that way. My PC only recognises my 305 when hooked in via a particular USB port and none of the others.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

The Garmin website is good for this kind of assistance, you can email them and they will get back to you pretty quickly.0

Have you got a micro-SD card installed in the 705? If so, remove it and then try again (you may need to start from scratch and re-boot your PC first, then plug in the USB and see what you get). I`ve had probs with various Garmins doing what you have got (not my 705 though ??) and removing the SD card sorted it out, pain in the ass though if you want to copy stuff ONTO the SD card !!
Also had the USB port problem with a Nuvi 765T where it only "likes" to be plugged into a specific USB port :?Jens says "Shut up legs !! "

Have you tried UN-installing the Garmin communicator and then re-installing it from scratch?0

i had a problem with mine not being recognised by the pc, if i remember rightly the garmin was showing the pc on the screen but the pc didn't pick it up, when trying to access it via my computer it was saying the drive needed formatted, the map on the sd card had also gone, when it dd upload it only uploaded time of ride,
i rang garmin and they told me just to format the internal memory and turn on the garmin afterwards, did it n it worked a treat, even uploads much faster now
but if yours won't connect at all thats not much good to you, i'd ring or email garmin0
