Apparently trek have lost a container full of bikes.
Mate ordered a trek fuel 5 a few weeks ago and was supposed to arrive today.
He rang up and apparently trek have lost a container load and they wont have it in untill march?!
wonder if its fallen off a container ship or just lost in a depo some were.
Will be keeping my eyes peeled

not sure how reliable it is but its what the manager said at westbrooks lbs.
some thing might come up in a few days. that or they just screwed the order up.
either way mate got a trek fuel 6 for £1300 instead of £1600 due to the carry on

How the he'll do you loose a container? Tell them to retrace their steps, where did they last see it

as the other chap said - "apparantly" sort of sounds like "we screwed up our order" to me

I used to import cars beleave me its not uncomman for a "container" to fall off a ship or get sent some place else  or the container can come loose and smash about the ship .......you open the container its full of bits and bent bob's

but that sounds like sh!t to be honist trek orderd there 2010 bike months ago for the next year in one go thats why the prices are so hight this year when they orderd them the pound £ was very low to the dolla £ ....so we all get screwed  its back up now but show's how far ahead they forcast there EU/UK sale's and how long ago they orderd them
I'v a friend works for trek

It'll turn up on a south beach coast in a few days. Get yer crow bars ready ;-)
  • You could always get in touch directly with Trek, if it turns out not to be true, I'm sure they would be very interested to hear about a shop selling their products deliberately misleading one of their customers

As leon says, once the bikes have been packed into a non-descript container, then taken to a massive port and left among tens of thousands of other non-descript containers before being picked and loaded onto a huge ship with hundreds of other non-descript containers, then unloaded at another massive seaport with tens of thousands of containers, then loaded onto a truck to some distribution centre somewhere.....

You get the idea, it's not difficult to imagine one getting lost in the system somewhere because somebody forgot to scan a barcode or filled out a form incorrectly. They could take months to find that one container.

    ermm,
anyone wanna buy a cheap trek? I've got about 400 I need to get rid of as I'm not really riding them as much and can't really justify keeping them all.............

    lol :D
  • Heppened with Schwinn a few years ago IIRC. Bristol was flooded with "secondhand" bikes that needed to be shifted quickly.
  • Tell them to check their shoes, when I lose stuff, it always ends up in my shoes.

Quite easily, I think, especially in the case the 2 new sofas I ordered in August that still haven't turned up - for the exact same reason.....

Well its clearly linked. Like I said before, the container is obviously under your missing sofas.
  • Madness!

Back in the June of 1999 my bike got stolen from the storage yard of my LBS and they told me to just pick something worth a grand or so from the catalogue and they'd get it in for me.

I picked a Giant ATX 1100 and was told a couple of weeks. I didn't get it until the end of August because a shipping container of Giant bikes had "gone missing" about the same time mine had been ordered.

I didn't think it sounded too improbable at the time and I still don't - especially after that Napoli container ship incident a couple of years back.

  • We export a lot of our work, and I was surprised recently to hear that anywhere between 2000 to 10000 containers are lost at sea every year. Usually due to storms!

Based on that information, it could be true. Or, like someone has already mentioned...they've ballsed-up your order!

I think a few years back it was in MBUK that Kona had lost a container at sea so it does happen.

The ocean floor is probs a good place for all them crappy Session 8 Treks at least then they wont snap :x

We nearly had a 40' trailer load of GTs delivered to our place instead of the budget stuff from Moore Large we sell. It wasn't until the driver mentined GT that we realised he had the wrong warehouse, they were on the other side of the Aztec West roundabout.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Woah, Treks don't come in continers, they're hand made by voluptuous virgins and hand delivered by a dozen Tia Carrera clones.

At least, thats what they told me when I bought my ex9

Ships go missing therefore containers go missing also. Especially of the east coast of Africa or the Malak straights in SE Asia.
