Raising the bars

Ok so my current bike is too short at the front according to my lbs when i had a bike fit.
They sat me on a giant defy which was a lot more comfortable and its top tube was 1.5 inches taller than mine.
The seat hight is correct but due to the bars being low i get pressure from the front of the saddle, resulting in numb nuts after about 10 mins on the turbo. The bars have been rotated so i can now use the hoods and drops more than i could. This is fine outside as i tend to move around more on the bike. But when on the trainer i dont move as much.
I have tried dropping the saddle a tad but that just made things worse as i was more squashed.
I think i only need about an extra 1.5cm on the front.
Would an adjustable stem be enough to give me the extra height i need?
Just want to salvage the bike enough to use on the turbo and for going to work when its too manky for the good bike.

Have you tried taking the stem off and refitting it upside down? Most road stems are angled downwards, though this isn't really all that noticeable, and if fitted upside down you could gain about 2cm in height.0

Now if the stem is the horizontal bit the bars are attached too then yes i have already done that.
Can someone explain what the bit at the top of the top tube that the other end of the stem attaches too is called?
Assuming the bit im thinking of is the stem.

Steerer tube? Top bit of the fork that pokes out through the top of the head tube. May have spacers (rings) on it?0 -
Yeah thats the thing. has the cap on the top you take of with an allen key0

Steer tube is the American name - in the UK its known as the fork .
Can you put up a photo of the offending area - then it might be easier to make suggestions.0 -

Evans (and prob. others sell a stem extension.I fitted one.Once fitted you can move the bars up and down without using spacers as they are all under the extension.
I will try and find a link in a minute.0 -
This one of the links they also do a black one
