Hi folks.
Im going to build myself a new set of wheels, to be used throughout the summer on my carbon Bianchi.
I was thinking of Hope pro 3 rims, but im unsure of a rim. I have considered Mavic Open Pro.
Money is no object, but I do want to build them myself.

Ambrosio Excellight, Rigida Zenith, DT R1.1 or something from DRC would all be good choices, not that there is anything wrong with Mavic Open Pros. Some of the Kinlin Niobium rims are quite light as well (I think those are available in the UK from Halo rims).0

Mavic and Ambrosio rims have one distinct advantage over others I've seen: their spoke holes have eyelets and sockets. This means that the load from spoke tension is borne on both sides of the rectangular cross-section, instead of being borne entirely by the spoke bed. Given that fatigue failure around spoke holes is not a particularly uncommon type of rim failure, I see no reason to use other rims, unless they have compensating advantages.0

i would look for a welded rim as well.the dt 1.2 is welded. i think they the only name which do rims hubs and spokes. spaim cx-ray are about the best spoke you can get if money is no object but damned expensive. over £2 a piece.0

Thanks for the advice folks. Ill do a bit of research then post a pic once ive built them0

last wheels I had built were Ambrosio Excellights on Hope PR3 with DT aerospeed spokes. Nice setup. Not superlight but stiff. Aerospeeds are cheaper and thicker than aerolights/CX-rays.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0

Thats kind of the route im going to go, I really want good strong reliable wheels.
With the state of the roads in Scotland, strength will be better than superlight0 -
IRD Cadence Aero rims?
I got these for their strength rather than aeroness.0 -
Depends on your weight, what you plan to do with them and the conditions you're riding in? A 60 kg climber is going to need something different from a 90kg sprinter.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
