Colnago Primavera - Crud Guards

I recently bought a Primavera frame to build up as a winter training bike, but am trying to fit Crud Guards.
I am having problems - the frame fittings won't wrap around the front forks and there does not seem to be enough clearance between the tyre (Continential 4 Seasons) and the frame to accommodate the Crud Guards.
I've never fitted Crud Guards before. Am I doing something wrong or should I try an alternative?
Thanks,

Depends on the clearance between the tyre and fork crown - you need about 4mm minimum, otherwise they simply won't fit. You may have more room with a narrower tyre.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I'd say you need to be able to fit a 5mm allen key between fork and tyre. I could get a 4mm key between my GP4000S' and my Bianchi fork, but the the crud guard would then rest on the tyre.0
