Left my car this morning on double yellow lines, as i couldnt get down the hill coz of a van being stuck coming up the other way.

Will i still get a ticket? you cant see the lines but the sign is clearly visable!

  • Yes!

I just saw a Parking Warden putting tickets on a line of obviously stuck cars.

On the plus side local school kids were peppering him with snowballs while he was doing it :D

I suspect you could appeal a ticket but if there's another option I would move the car.

Bit harsh no? If you can't move a car you can't move.....

Down here a car was stuck on the lines and he never got ticketed.

  • You can still get a ticket, however some boroughs dont send the wardens out. Check the Local Authorities website.

The local authority in Reading is giving people 24hrs, after the snow has cleared to collect cars abandoned due to snow. Tickets given during the period when they were stuck due to snow will be cancelled.......... or so they say !

I think most authorities will give people some slack in severe weather but they have an interest in keeping the roads clear.

A colleague of mine left his car on double yellows last night. Other than a dent in the wing where someone hit it there was no ticket on it when he collected it this morning.

People have been ignoring the DYs in the next street since the first snow in late Dec. Mind you. in the six year's we've been here I don't think I've ever seen a warden patrolling in the area.

Many years ago I parked on a single yellow that I couldn't see because of snow (at the wrong time) while visiting my father in hospital.
    Got towed away.

That's one of the reasons why yellow line systems and clearways have metal signs on posts at the roadside.

Double yellow lines no longer need signs to support them (since the 2002 Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions), single yellows still do as they need to set out the times of operation.

They are well within their rights to give you a ticket.

But if you can't see the sign OR the lines and can prove it - you could get it reversed.

You generally get cut some slack though when the weather turns foul like this. Unless you live in Manchester.

If a car is stuck in snow on double yellows and is ticketed by a warden, then I am pretty certain that an appeal against that ticket would be successful.

Speaking from the authority side of the fence, it would be embarrassing for the council's head of parking to be receiving such appeals as he knows the ticket should never have been issued. I would expect in most cases, wardens have been warned to take care which cars they ticket in this weather.
