Can anyone recommend a 'snug fitting' or smallish helmet? I'm happy to spend up to £100 and will put function before fashion, but most helmets I try are so big they look like radar domes! Surely some are 'closer fitting' than others!?!? I am 60cm.

Thanks

giro atmos is less bulky than most

at 60cm a medium might be too tight, but head shape does make a big difference to fit so it'd be worth giving medium a try before going for large

but if it's too tight you won't be able to wear anything underneath in the cold weather!

you can pick up pre-2010 atmos for under £100, but for the latest you might need to go a a few quid over

    How about one of these:

    Catlike Kompact Pro :D

Sure, they're a little smaller than most "large" sizes but other "large" ones are a bit too big for me, while the mediums don't always give full side protection for my head. No worries with this helmet though - and they're getting more and more popular thanks to the success of the Cervelo Test Team.
  • Take a look at the LAS Squalo I got mine for £70. Its a very snug comfy helmet. It comes with 2 liners for winter/ summer. It doesn't sit on your head like a mushroom at all in fact it seems to have quite a low profile. The look is somewhat marmiteish. I love mine and would recommend it to anyone. I wouldn't have any other helmet.
Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!

can also recommend the giro atmos, doesnt seem to be as "big" as others, feels very light and keeps head cool even on the hottest days.in fact i now wear mine on hot days as its cooler than leaving it off like i used to, and i dont get a burnt head or sun stroke anymore!

I can recommend the Uvex FP1. VERY light, comfortable and doesn't look like you're wearing a bowl on your head. The buckle is also a doddle to fasten one handed if that's any use to you!

your the same as me and in between sizes for the Giro's, i find the mediums too small and cant get buff under in winter and the larges too big unless tightened but then dont feel snug and look weird.
Go for the Catlike helmets they are in different sizes and a large from these should be just right.
Carbon is a mans best freind
  • I got a boardman road hat for xmas which fits really well and only £59 including a decent hard case, Why spend more! it even has a carbon frame.
  • Lazer genesis helmet, awesome helmet, lock system tightens up evenly round your whole head so there is no built up pressure.

Just got a Met Sine thesis £96 from ribble, looks really compact really comfy and i wore it today and nearly froze my head so it should be good on the summer. I think if I killed it I'd buy another even at £135 from wiggle.

No foam inside either so it won't stink, that's why I got one.

  • go to a good bike shop and try as many as possible
try them for fit and see how they look on you, you can decide for yourself which best suits your needs
i have several helmets which are supposed to be the same size but all fit very differently

Another vote for the Giro Atmos and compared to the rest of me my head is fairly small(well most of the time)
