Winter seems to be playing havoc with my bike and the latest victim is the campag veloce front mech...

Since midway throuh sundayt's ride it won't shift into the little ring without assistance from my hand or foot, when you press all the way down on the thumb button it simply doesn't move. After this, it will move perfectly into the big ring. The only thing I could think of that would make it come on so suddenly is cable tension, so I retensioned it it both positions to no avail. Squited a shedload of GT85 on it to no avail too.

So is it something to do with the limiter screws (if so which one do I mess with?) or is it simply knacked?

Sounds like the sticking on coming from the mech itself.

    How cold was it?

Anyway, give the mech a good clean then grease.

Disconnect the cable, swing the mech through its travel by hand.

Does it move freely without sticking?

Yes? - it's your shifter, or corroded cable.
  • Right, sorted that, my own soft fault (as per), i'd not put the cable in the right position. Problem reversed then... wouldn't go into big ring so tampered with the limiter screw until that worked.

Part 2: To get it so I don't have to really ram at the shifter to get it into the big ring am I loosening the upper limiter or tightening the lower one?
