probably not worth the trip, i live in the south lakes and unless it is significantly different from here, I would give it a miss. Not because of the the new snow but because of the ice that has been on the ground for the best part of three weeks.
the best fun around here at the moment is skiing snowboarding or ice climbing.
If you are really determined probably worth giving the cycle shop there a ring.0 -
It's just about rideable on the North side now. South side is a push apparently.
I was tempted to rock up there today, but ended up servicing my forks instead. Will be up there one day this week though.0 -

Where abouts are you in the South Lakes? Im in Barrow and was thinking of heading out to Hawshead Hill/Hodge Close area on Saturday but my main concern is the roads. Dont wanna smash my new car! My front street is an ice rink so makes me think the quieter roads up around tarn hows will be in a similar condition, maybe worse.0 -
I don't think it would be much fun, I've been having fun just trying to walk up hills, I live up the kentmere valley near Staveley.0

Oh you lucky swine. One of my favorite parts of the world! I particularly like the Watermill Inn's selection of fine ales!!
The route I have in mind is a good all weather route and we did it last year after a good dusting of snow. Maybe it's a bit more extreme this year tho. & colder.
Was up in Kendal about a week ago and was surprised how much snow there was. Roads seemed OK tho. What are the roads like round by you now? Is Staveley accessible?0 -
Staveley is accessible, however the road up to Kentmere is not really doable.
You could always take a trip up here and if it no good for you, you could then retreat to the pub a hero
It is a lot worse than last year or better depending on how you look at it.0 -
Whinlatter is a waste of time in the ice but the rest of the Lakes - we had it to ourselves yesterday and last Sunday. Conditions are FANTASTIC if you know where to look.
