Garmin 500

Anybody got any experience of the new Garmin 500. In particular, I was wondering exactly how the GPS / mapping functions work. I realise that it doesn't have maps as such, but the 'gumpf' on the Garmin website, seems to imply that you can download a route from say, one of the bike routing sites, and also upload details of where you have ridden.
So question is....if you can actually download a route before starting out, how does it tell you where to turn etc ...is it arrows / distance or what, or maybe it doesn't do anything like that at all!!!
Also, when uploading a route, I assume that it captures the details while you are riding along, but that you can't get at them, until you upload them to a PC once the ride has finished.
Any views gratefully received.
