I'm looking for a book or possibly 2 which has complete maintenance and servicing instructions and also with information on correct riding techniques etc. Pretty much an all round beginners guide to mountain bkes. Any suggestions?

    dont bother with books.

just use Sheldons and Parktools websites for the servicing, and then get the latest and greatest service info for things like forks and shocks and brakes from the makers sites.

riding well i have no ideas on that.

The Brian Lopes/Lee McCormack book is pretty good, someone got me it for christmas last year. For maintenance, Nick is spot on, Park and Sheldon, manufacturer's websites and google searches will give you all you need. Another wellmeaning relative got me the Haynes Bike Book, and tbh it's not much good at all.
