I use an SKS shockboard - easy install, works a treat, never gets in the way, keeps me mostly clean, and easily removable for dry days.

    Hiya,

no worries, I think you can get them for around £11 - I only looked at the place i got mine from years ago, ukbikestore, but I expect there are plenty of other retailers.

Not having experience of the Steve Peat guard, but having a quick look at a pic, I would have thought you will still get covered in mud from one.

Maybe if combined with a crud guard it works fine, but I never found the downtube guards to be much cop.

    EDIT:
£9.58 seems to be the cheapest:

No idea on their postage costs.

Wiggle have them for £11.69 delivered and are in stock.

    Cheers

SKS Shockboard will give you best coverage and best coverage from over spray, so if that's important then it's the one to go for. I use the Shockboard because it stops liquid cow / sheep sh!t over spray - none of the others do.

Some people don't like that style of guard at all though. Well. Fuck them. ;)

Shockboard is the one you want, if you want one that works ;) Or something similiar- it tracks the wheel, and it catches the forward-flung crap. Frame guards are no comparison.

I use a downtube mounted Crud style guard, and the neoprene Neoguard you mentioned. It's a pretty good combo, though I admit it probably doesnt give me as much coverage as the Shockboard.

  • I've got a fender bender on mine at the moment. Brilliant piece of kit. Currently using it combined with a crud guard front and rear which is keeping me nice and free of dog poo...

    ...which is nice.

I bought my gf one of those, cheaper than the shockblade as well, and it looks to me like it should do a better job than the shockblade but I always end up with less crap on me by some margin.

I expect riding style and tyre tread will play some part in this, but I can only tell it like I see it :D

Topeak's good but not as bendy flexi-woo as the Shockboard. SB's less likely to break on impact. Bout the same coverage overall too.

It's not only mud though. It's liquid cow and sheep sh!t and over spray. get a gob full of that and you'll soon know it.

I've got a Crud guard on the downtube and a neoguard at the front. That neoguard is pricey for a bit of felt...... but it does work pretty great. Surprisingly obvious product. My bullit looks a bit nerdy with all the mudguards on but I hate getting all wet and muddy at the start of a ride, or getting mud in the face.

    I'm well old.

And another pair of glasses over those glasses so you can take them off when they get muddy. And another pair over those...

  • I've had two of those Topeak brackets snap on me after tumbles. Did work well when it was on though.
