At this point in time im looking at getting the boardman team bike i have a absolute max of £850.00 to spend on a bike, im on the verge of ordering the Boardman team but I have been told that halfords can order specialized bikes in and that it may be worth looking at one of those which one should i look at in the sub £850 price range or should i just order the Boardman bike

Thanks,

Jonny

No doubt that the Boardman has the better spec. But the Spesh is not bad either and a nice frame.
  • I'm not trying to be a harbinger of doom but I bought myself a Boardman F/S Pro in march and had nothing but trouble with it. The spec is truely amazing for the money, but the trouble is, in my experiance at least, Halfords are incapable of doing justice to that quality of bike with their expertese and customer service.
I took it in for its 6 week service and things went down hill from there :( The tightening of the gear cables meant that they never ran smooth again. There were mis-shifts in spades and halfords just couldn't seem to get it fixed. The bike was in 5 times in a 4 week period with at least one occasion when it was returned to me without anything being done to it! I finally lost all faith in Halfords and subsequantly the bike and traded it in for a Zesty 514 from my lbs.
I'm not saying this is all halfords, and that it would happen to you. I just wanted to make you aware that Boardman's are top notch products whilst Halfords has traditionally been a cheap and cheerfull stock-em-high-sell-em-cheap outfit and the two are not neccessarily comptable.
