No - I didn't fall off the Turbo.......
  • Give us time, billy whippet, we'll get there! I bet the salt that's mixed in with the grit stings like feck! By the time we adjust to these conditions, it's only going to thaw and disappear for years, you do know that, don't you?
  • no but a club mate did at a roundabout today.

I haven't wasted my time so far. I was out Christmas morning and the 28th and, while I enjoyed the quiet parts, there was frozen puddles and patches of ice protruding way out from kerbs and if a car had been in proximity things could've been nasty. In certain parts I found myself almost in the middle of the carriageway.

Now we the added bonus of dick heads far too eager to get to sales to save 15% on a horrible cardigan they'd never have bought if it wasn't for the fact the feckin' thing was reduced.

Yep, black ice this morning. Happened so quick I don't really remember. One minute I was sat on the saddle the next I was sat on sheet ice sliding along the road.

Fortunately by landing on my backside I didn't tear my new jacket, so every cloud has a silver lining!

Hope you heal soon billy whippet -sounds like I got off lightly. If this winter carries on I'm gonna invest in a turbo and retreat to the shed.
  • No, not yet. Mind you I haven't been out on the bike this year.

    I haven't ridden these 3 days.

But, I watched someone pass me this morning as I was walking to the supermarket (conditions too bad even to drive the short distance). I just saw he was riding a Trek 1.? and dressed in proper cycling gear. About 20 yards past me his back wheel slipped on ice, he corrected by leaning forward, he unclipped his right leg, rolled on further and the front wheel seemed to skid. He just used his right leg to balance/stop/everything all at once. He shuffled his bike off the ice and went on his way.

    My hero.

No but I managed to 'skin' my left shin on the turbo-bike at the gym on Saturday morning.

(nb With the road's the way they are at the moment the bike's staying in the shed for the forseable future.)

If it makes you feel better exactly the same happened to me yesterday. Tootling along on the flat, 18mph ish, in the sunshine, very crisp start to a 60 mile ride over Malvern, then black ice and the camber of the road sent me down like a stunned heifer!
