9 speed shifters with 8 speed cassette?

I'm in need of some new shifters, as the Sora ones on my bike at the moment are horrible, and have spotted some fairly cheap Ulegras on Ebay, but they are 9 speed and my cassette is only 8, would this work, or would i need to get a new cassette too?

    You can make it work, but not perfectly. Cassettes are cheap, so you may as well go to 9 speed. You'll need a chain too, but your mechs etc will all be fine.
