A sad farwell was bid to David Tennant last night on Dr Who. I for one, will lament his passing! He has been a great Doctor and thrilled the viewers. However, I just have this feeling that we are not going to be exposed to same experience with the new Doctor. Just a great shame John Simm couldn't of played the Doctor after David!

I agree, though I thought the plot lines and stuff for the last episode were a bit convoluted and confusing for a kid to watch - and almost inevitably it was overly sentimental in the end, but across his time as the doctor he was superb. I fear for this new kid and worry that BBC will try to 'sex' it up and ruin it
  • He really really very really didn't want to go, did he? He only did it after visiting all the main characters from previous episodes and doing a few good turns - a lottery ticket here, a bonk for Barrowman there and a rendering of ''For Ood Lang Syne.''

New Who looks like he's going to up the buffoonery for the next season. Boris Johnson could have played his role without even acting....

I said the same about Tennent that people are saying about the new guy. :? Ecclestostononon... was much better.

Then theres the Holy Trinity: Wurzel, Troughton and Baker. No one will ever rise to that, even if the sfx was naff and the stores silly

I wasn`t sure about the Barrowman bit, can`t he get himself laid? I don`t think the other guy was even gay.
Troughton? You`re showing your age there.

I thought the Xmas and New Year episodes of Dr Who were boring, strained, cheap and self-indulgent. It was like a lovvies benefit show held in yet another dull post-industrial wasteland.

I concluded that I must just be old and grumpy, but then I had a chance to canvas the views of the youngsters in my extended family (ages 10 to 16). What did you think of the Dr Who? "boooringggg!" they all said.

I am so in touch with youth culture!! :D

It's a shame the last 4 specials were a bit... well... naff, really. The last one made no sense at all and was downright stupid in some places. And a total waste of the Time Lords. What was the point of bringing them back if you're going to get rid of them again 30 minutes later?

But despite that, Tennant was a great doctor. Much better when was acting rather than running around like a headless chicken. The last 20 minutes of last night's episode were amazing... it was a real spine tingler when Wilf started knocking on the glass.

Just a shame that Tennant won't be paired for a whole series with Moffat. RTD deserves a lot of credit for bringing the series back, but his episodes are always pretty weak, while Moffat's are always the best.

Not passing judgement on the new guy yet, but I like the new trailer. And the new assistant is FIT

I agree. Moffat's storys were by far the best. 'Blink', IMO, is the best episode - an absolute cracker - and Tennant's been the best Dr., ahead of Tom Baker.

I'll reserve judgement on the new guy, but he's got a lot to live up to. I can't see how he can better Tennant's Dr.

Why is it that the Dr. seems to be getting younger after each regeneration? William Hartnell was an old man and the new guy looks just out of his teens. At this rate the Dr'll be hairing round the cosmos in a pram in 10 years time.

Yep. I think the Doc must have a thing for redheads... although this one is a vast improvement on Catherine Tate...

I agree, Crapaud, Blink was the best I can remember. No need for much in the way of special effects - more horror than sci-fi - but excellent.

BTW, that head-wobbling stuff in the last episode was the weakest special effect that I've seen in a long time, neither well done nor adding to the story.

I thought the last 3 episodes all contained fantastic bits.

Waters of Mars- Doctor going evil in the last 20 minutes was brilliant
End of Time Part 1- Master was great as usual
End of Time Part 2- Doctor grabbing Wilfs gun,
The Masters death was epic. Just afterwards, when the Doctor desperately tries to justify not saving Wilf, is a great bit of acting. Ending with "lived too long" and sacrificing himself.

I enjoyed it, probably more second time though as I wasn't wondering what was going to happen so could enjoy the drama.

And just checked the doctors new assistant out.. Fit!

Looks like she has had an accident taking down the christmas lights, poor thing.

I liked Eccleston best and McCoy least. Tennant was very good - somewhere behind Eccleston and Baker I reckon.

Tennant was good, no question and possibly the best but difficult comparison with Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee. What has helped DT immensley is the supporting cast members he's had, they've raised the level that much higher, that'll continue.

The interplay between Wilf Mott and the doctor over the last two episodes was pretty damn good, Bernard Cribbens is brilliant anyway and a good twist that he was the man who sounded the knock. John Simm was brilliant in the Master role, absolute genius.

It moves on and no one Doctor is bigger than the show, i've been a fan of Dr Who forever and this is another evolution. Stephen Moffatt is a superb writer and Blink has to be the best episode in the history of Dr Who. I think it's in safe hands and when Matt Smith gets to develop the character I think he'll be good, I see shades of Troughton in there.

Oh yeah, Karen Gillan is lovely as well

Blink was also my favourite..despite the fact that the Doctor was hardly in it....
.. DT got the balance of light hearted whimsy with dark sad solitude just right - CEccleston was a bit darker and i hope the new guy isnt too light hearted...the Doc has inner demons ....
  • Couldn't she be the new Doctor instead, or would that confuse the kiddies too much?

Personally I was sick of the sight of Tennant - his limited range of facial expressions, especially the wide eyed thing rminded me of Roger Moore who admitted that the ability to raise each eyebrow independently carried him through a 50 year career.

I thought Tennant was a good Doctor. Rated Christopher Ecclestone too.

David Tennant did a thing about 3/4 years ago called Blackpool. Did anyone see that? It was a bit like the North West's answer to Twin Peaks.

First impressions of the new guy aren't good, happy to be proved wrong tho.
