No, your not too old to race, but you are too short0
-
Go for it!
Try it for a season - see if you enjoy it or not. Worse case, if you don't enjoy it, it will have given you some targets and improved your fitness, experience and ability.Cycling weakly0 -
Bunches have been getting older ever since I've been racing anyway. Have a go and enjoy yourself."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

true - there seems to be a higher percentage of vets on the start sheet now....0 -
When it's no longer fun, or too painful, or lost the whatever it was that got you started, then that is the point at which you should stop.0

You're only 42, I know riders approaching 50 who can win club races. It's not your age but what you want to achieve and how much you put into your training that matters. If it's something you want to do then go for it.

Where's the option to grow old gracefully and race?
I can't believe someone aged 42 is asking this question. Perhaps you should buy yourself a rug to put over your knees and start to enquire about meals on wheels?
Or you could get off your backside and get on with it like dozens of people I know in their 50s, 60s and 70s.
Look up the LVRC and see if you can keep up with the 60+ year olds in a road race - I bet 75% of the people under 40 on this forum couldn't. Those guys are very fit and very fast.

Go and ask Malcolm Elliott, he's approaching 50 and still racing with the young pro's.0

So consider yourself reprimanded young man. Much more of this sort of talk and it's the naughty step for you.Where the neon madmen climb0 -

Haha! Just look for a dimming of the sky.
Back to the OP. I'm 46 and I'll be looking to start racing this year(Lotus Cars series) and do my first triathlons as well as the various TT's and stuff. I'm by no means fast but i'll give it a go just for the enjoyment and the challenge.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?
