Hey all,

I'm a newb as far as kit is concerned so need a bit of help. I got a Felt C4 with the spec as here apart from peddles:

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/fel ... e-ec017076

Been riding it lot over the last few months, just got it serviced, nothing needs replacing, but I got a bit of cash floating about and fancied treating myself to something new. What's the first thing I should look at upgrading, in the region of £100ish, say... Something that I might also use on my next bike would be good (will probably upgrade to a £2k bike mid summer if all goes to plan).

Cheers :o)

  • Which part is the most worn out on your bike already? Look to replace that.
Pointless getting some bling carbon bars if your drive is knackered etc.

Why not save the money to put towards your new build?

Alternatively, Crossride wheels from Merlin if you can go to £125

tyres , get spares or different types.
you can never have enough tyres :D
if no parts worn out , then look at bling pedals , grips and saddle to personalise bike or add a splash of colour.

Do they do a centre lock version of the mavics ?

Take into consideration the bike has centre lock hubs on the evans page so if you bought 6 bbolt hubs you would need new rotors !

i wouldnt touch the wheels until the hub bearings are shafted i would have more trust in a wtb speed disc rim over a mavic crossride and the crossrides are not really a upgrade from what you have. .

if you do want to upgrade the wheels i would go for these http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/mountain- ... -rims.html

ur bike is a am/trail bike afterall and the crossrides are not exactly a hard hitting wheelset, more of a entry xc set.

i would invest in some better brakes. bottom end shimanos are terrible. either some xt's if u want to stick with shimano or some formula/avids ect somthing like these.

im not a big fan of avids but there about the best for the money.

poss tyres, but dont really know anything about felt tyres.

the forks are also a weak link but as long as there smooth and free from play i would keep them until there dead.

I agree, the crossride wheelset isn't really any better than what you have.

Some folding bead tyres would be my first purchase.

Are the stock ones really 2.6 wide? That's massive! Perhaps a 2.35 Kenda Nevegal DTC?

The felt is a Stephenson 6 bar, unique in MTB suspenion.
