I am desperate to get out, live in lancaster and all ice has gone, explored all my local stuff, but yearn for a trail centre.

Gusburn, Whinlatter, Grizedale, 7 stanes, Lee quarry or maybe north wales?

Any of them rideable, and i dont mean push your bike in the snow rideable

Recon your best bet would be Grizedale. Whinlatter was under a foot of snow last Tuesday so probably won't have thawed. Gisburn was in a state before the snow due to the amount of rain we had in October and november and, as you probably know llandegla has been closed for the last few weeks.

I've not been grizedale but it didn't look too bad looking over to Parker moor from coniston on Wednesday. They may have had fresh snow though.

It's depressing at the moment in the north west. I've still not managed to have a proper ride on the new meta.
  • Wouldn't bother with Whinlatter. The hill up to it is very icey and hard work in the car. Once up there the snow stops any progress. We struggling to get anywhere up there on a bike. Might be worth ringing the bike shop for an up-to-date status, as they were still open. I was last up there four days ago.

Saturday morning and whiteout conditions in Burnley.

Stove lit, hot chocolate in hand, NWD DVDs playing. Stopping in.

  • Had every intention of going Gisburn this morning, that was until I opened the curtains! Rammy is covered in snow, might have a trek to Lee Quarry. Seriously depressing this weather! My mate went to Whinlatter yesterday and told me not to bother, he said it was too icy and no fun!

But then I thought "sod it" and went out -

Snow eh? The great leveller! Actually, it was surprisingly easy riding, powder a foot deep in most places, except the gullies down by the walls and the bit where I "missed" the bridge over a stream...

    Grizedale.....

Anyone know what the roads are like getting to Cocklett and the general conditions round grizedale/parkamoor etc?

Not sure about Grizedale conditions, but if you do go, be very careful on the boardwalk 'north - shore' bits, they are like ice when they get wet :!:

Yeah they can be lethal them ones. Not doing the North face, doing all the good stuff instead as long as we can get nearby without any problems.

I was going to go up there on Sunday, phoned the guy in the bike shop who said the trail was under 4 inches of hardpacked ice. Didn`t bother in the end.

More snow last night, good luck.

Heard a rumour on the news this morning that we may have this weather for another 6 weeks making it the coldest winter for 100 years

sorry but I woke up to another 5cm of snow this morning, I only live a few miles from parkamoor and Grizedale.

Had enough of not being able to get anywhere in my Golf so I P/X for a Subaru Legacy at the weekend, now I can get out and about. :)

More like another 5 inches on top of the previous layers in East Lancs (Gisburn / Lee Quarry country).
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
