My boardman hardtail, and someone else's on this forum, is equipped with Race King 2.2s. They roll very fast and have good grip on road and off-road. They are quite wide though if that bothers you.
Also, before you buy new tyres, check the ones that are on are oriented correctly. The tread should be facing the opposite way on the rear tyre, and it wasn't on mine.0 -
ok thanks, will check them tomoro, would possibly go for 2.2's want minimum drag as possible0

Mine came with Speedkings as well, great for road and cycle track riding etc, but I also found as soon as the going got slighty muddy...that was it.
Replaced with Panaracer Fire XC Pro Folding and then some Schwalbe Nobby Nic Folding . Both did the job great (just my 2p worth)2010 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Expert Carbon

I'd recommend the Search Button tires...0

Maxxis Ignitors. They roll well, are quite light, have plenty of grip and not too expensive. Without doubt my favourite tyre!0

What tyre pressure did you have in them and how much do you weigh?
This makes a lot of difference to grip. Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"0 -
maxxis advantage?0

I'd drop 5 psi off those figures and try that.
I'm using around 20 psi at the moment in the conditions we have at the moment, that's with a riding weight of 10 stone. Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"0 -

Kenda nevegal gets my vote, but deffo play about with the pressures.
Im 13.5 stone and run between 20-25 psi in these wet slippy conditions, its a little draggy on the roads but grips so well off itGiant - https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/334272_10151115280715087_1148897730_o.jpg0 -
Fill them with concrete ... That way it will sink to the bottom of the mud and find grip, might be a bit bumpy though
Alternatively use the search button0 -

Well wet rocks if smoothend over the years will be hazardous ..
It's not rocket science by any means even if they aint it just down to your experience which you greatly lack under various conditions don't blame the tyre ...
Mr Boardman wouldn't bother his backside giving his name to a range of bikes that wasn't worth jack0 -
