I have ordered them to have a look at £40, but fear at 6 foot 1 and been big build, going to be too small for me...feel I would need XL..

I wouldn't worry too much I bought some M Orbea bibs for £15 because they fit ok, according to a website I found them on afterwards M = 26-28" waist. I'm 34ish.

Managed to grab a couple of pairs of the Santini Genesis One's on Monday evening and they arrived today...

...dear God, they're a bit snug aren't they? Feel quality though - certainly nicer than my Gore bibshorts. Guess the real test will come with rides, but happy with the purchase now.

    Thanks for the link!

  • Try and get your hands on a pair of castelli body paint bib shorts. They only have 1 seam. Google them.

I like the campagnolo ones - the new ones with the red chamois, not the old ones with the blue air-filled chamois. The C550 Raytech are actually pretty good value despite the campagnolo name.

For me the most important thing with shorts is the ease of getting the main part of the pad situated directly over the sitbones. Some shorts seem to have the pad in the wrong place for my anatomy so that I am always trying to shift it backwards or forwards while riding. As well as having padding in the right place, I don't like having it where I don't need it. Different brands will suit different people.

    World of difference between them.
Flat seams on Genesis and the best insert they do.

  • How do the Assos bibs size up? I'm looking at the Uno S5's and I'm 6'4" and medium build, around 90kg.
  • I got 2 pairs of these the other day but in size 6 they only have size 7 left. They seemed an good bargain and look/feel great

I've had stuff from prendas and it's all been really good quality, I'd bet those shorts would be decent - and a first class customer service, uk business etc

also - I have some castelli bibs (ones with the kiss pad) and they are very comfy

  • I thought Lusso shorts and tights were the worst I'd ever used.

Here is my preference in order based on experience:

Santini (top end of range) - looks, comfort and price.
Castelli - KISS Pad pretty good but style can be a bit lame.
Di Marchi - comfortable but wear badly.
Assos - good design features but really overpriced and overrated. Pad doesn't suit me as well as above.
DHB - great price, comfortable for a time but legs are too long on tights.
Campagnolo - pad not nice and legs too tight but styling OK.
Lusso - legs too long on tights. Pads poor in shorts, bad styling, fall apart.

Based on experience with jerseys, I'd think Giordanas are worth a go. For something more unusual I reckon Parentini might be good too.
