Hi,

I recently purchased a 2010 Orange P7 S and whilst riding home I heard a scraping noise when tilting the bike to one side and not pedaling. The rear brake lever goes just about back to the bar to get a full lock on it.

My friend said that the brakes would just need bedding in, so we went for a 3.5 hour ride. Unfortunately, the problem still exists.

I'm just getting back into biking and disc brakes are a new thing for me to have so am not sure what exactly to do. I am due a first service for free from the shop where i bought it but they've just relocated a big distance from where they were and as i don't have a car it's a chew on to get there.

The brakes are just the standard Avid Juicy 3's that came with the bike.

Any ideas? I will take it to the shop for a full service when needed but didn't want to waste a free service for something i could possibly fix easily?

If the lever is going all the way to the back sounds like they need bleeding.
But with the brakes while you leaning... Could be the hub maybe?

sounds like time to go back to the shop with it.

could be many things or maybe just needs using and bedding in.

Is it possible you've lost one of the pads and the spring keeping them back against the pistons?

What can you see in the caliper with the wheel removed?
  • Wordnumb, if i'm 100% honest, i'm not sure what i'm looking for :S.

I don't think i've lost anything as it started as soon as i left the shop.

It looks like i'm going to have to make the trek to their new location for the service.

    1) Adjust lever position (small allen key, used between the lever and the handlebar)
    2) Centre the callipers.

All the above is a 5 min job per brake.

Look up how to do the aforegoing so I don't have to write what's already been written , youtube also helps.

  • I've just been out on a ride and the noise seems to have stopped! But I've just dropped it off for a first service and let them know, they're going to take a look at it for me.

Thank you all for your comments.
