Unusual Cyclescheme purchases

I'd like a Powertap and I'm wondering if I could get one through Cyclesheme - buy a cheap bike with a Powertap wheel (I only need the wheel as I have an ANT+ Garmin). Has anyone done this or something similar? Presumably it's all down to the discretion of the bike shop?

I know of someone who bought a £200 bike and a Lupine Betty Light

I don't think you need to bother with the cheap bike.
I believe C2W is ok for cycling parts etc, too.
But, as you said, just have a word with your local Powertap stockist.
I'm pretty sure Fat Bird's would do it

I'll stand back and wait to be taken apart over this...

  • the issue shouldnt pop up unless your employer is a ba^&ard and wants the 'bike' back at the end. i havent even specified which bike im buying, just asked for the 1000 voucher, so it should be ok.

My employer needs a quote from the bike shop, but last year when I got a bike through Cyclescheme the shop asked if I wanted to add a few hundred quid worth of store credit since there wasn't anything I needed at the time so they're fairly flexible. Not sure they'd do me just a wheel though!

Just the wheels, nothing else? Which LBS (PM me if you'd rather not say)?

This is my friend trying to buy the store owner, and his lube, on the CycleScheme. She got the wrong end of the stick when she read about a "cheap ride" scheme.

He refused, and sold her a pink bike with stabilsers and a hat instead.

It's down to the discretion of the LBS. 50% of mine this year is going on a single speed, the rest is going on expensive clothing that I would otherwise struggle to justify to myself.

I know someone who got a turbo trainer (and no bike) with his a couple of years ago.
  • I didnt know this could be done?

Well I have got the bike this year with mine, but roll on some Zipps next year if I can wangle them!
