    Best advice for 2010.

    Don't buy a bike for 800-1200 pounds.

    Instead

    1. Buy Shimano 105 and Ultegra bargain parts
    2. Get some decent discounted wheels upto £250
    3. Pick up a bargain frame upto £500.
    eg. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=28624
Plenty of decent cheaper steel frames.
    4. Learn and build your bike with care, which is most of the fun.

You end up with a much more quality bike for the same money or less.

I have to say top advice and wish someone told me a LONG time ago, it would have saved me a small fortune. I did the same for my commuter. Sourced an '06 4400 front derailleur for £7,06 4400 shifters, '06 105 rear for not much more, 4500 brakes £20 ( old stock but all new), Gear and brake cables from Wilkies, cheap frame from from a m8. Already had a few bits. It shifts wonderfullly and the drive train is whisper quiet. Used just normal multigrade car oil. It is quite light ish. Obviously can upgrade parts as you see fit. Ill never let anybody else do the cabling again. My good bike on the other hand starts off with a £2000 frame :) and DA7800 cast offs.

I actually looked at that frame you have linked to but they didn't have small :(

I just did a quick example off top of my head. There huge choice of good frames for under. Even if it was pants, it be better than the frames that are on the bikes at £1000. You will see that frame on bikes of £1500. Personally i pick high quality steel.

You should of explained why you think that frame was pants.

Doing the maths on most factory £1500 bikes, the wheels supplied come to a average of £150. Thats not great wheels for £1500 outlay.

    How about these?

or Mavic Aksium for a £1000 budget, you would normally get something like Shimano RS10 supplied.

Go DIY and you get yourself a little superbike.
