I hate contacts and have given up with them. question is how do people, like me, deal with this wind and rain without eye covers?

is there something other than goggles we can use?

PS, this is me in some cool Real3D specs.

Contacts + sunglasses with interchangeable lenses or goggles if you wear a full face helmet or prescription sunglasses. Whatever you use you will always have to clean the crap from them. I personally wear contacts + cheap sunglasses with interchangeable lenses. Prescription can be costly if you break them. Have a look here for cheap options..(Rx-able stuff)

  • thanks both

  • I used to always wear oakleys with a vr28 lense when out riding with contact lenses on. However, recently I've been leaving the glasses at home and have been fine. Even in the mud my eyes hav stayed gunk free. May have been lucky though!

I wear spex and lenses, mainly spex full time, just prefer them. I have a few 'riding' pairs (the old buy 1 get 1 free deals, picked for the job). It's rare I get wind in the eye, or sh!t in the face, I wear a helmet with a peak and have a good mudguard combination.
  • I have an icl lens implant in my left eye.....

I wear contact lenses while riding and have to wear eye protection (clear glasses or sunnies) as the wind dries the lenses up and they get uncomfortable.

If you don't want to use contacts you can get riding glasses which have a prescription "clip in". Most riding glasses manufacturers do them. Have a look at bolle, rudy project etc...

I my opinion they do look shite though...

Optilabs prescription glasses with transitions lenses

I went for the cobras in black/silver,i've had this pair 18 months and there pretty well indestructible.
My old pair of sprints are 4 years old and they get used on the road bike.
  • I got some Rudy Project Rydons with the inserts. I don't care if they look shite in Ravey's opinion because I can't see myself when I am wearing them. Besides, without them I wouldn't be cycling anyway. Rudy do some direct glaze glasses, but you are talking 500 squid a pair. The cheapest place for Rudy Projects that I found was here:

I wear frameless oakleys for day to day stuff and and oakley half jackets for cycling, but at over £400 a pop for frame and lense combo it aint cheap but theres been nothing else ive tried that comes close to performance and staying free from the dreaded mist up!
I'm ordering a pair of custom Gascan in Jan so i dont have to have a two pairs, ordering with transition lenses so i can wear at work and on the trails.

I just wear my prescription glasses when out riding, the peak on my helmet helps to keep heavy rain off my glases and the odd bit of mud doesn't affect my vision enough to worry me.
  • I wear prescription sunglasses, or an old pair of untinted glasses. Steaming up is always a problem in winter though, but I can't wear contacts. As for the crap that gets thrown up, I just wipe it off as best I can!

Specsavers have a relatively bargainalicious set of "fauxkleys" here:
http://www.specsavers.co.uk/glasses/men ... iris-sun-3 - they do the job well enough, and are included in the 2-for-1 offer. It can get expensive if you have polarising lenses in both at £60 a pop, though... not something you want to be breaking too often.
