I come from a mtb background and always use sram chains as they are easier to split/join and don't require special pins to join them etc...
Is this the same with road chains?
I am building a bike with an ultegra groupset (although fsa chainset) and I'm pondering which chain i should use...
So sram and shimano....are they compatible?

The 10spd Links on SRAM chains are singleuse only, unlike the 8/9spd which are multiuse.
If you want reusable links, KMC or Wippermann are the way to go.0 -
In fact, I use a Sram chain with KMC links!0

all good advice. shimano chains are compatible with kmc joining links. multi use as well. but get a new one when you get a new chain. also kmc only make chains so all their effort goes into them. they have experience making motorcycle chains as well. some say they are the best. i think they also supply some of the shimano chains.0
