Heart Rate Monitors

Having never used any training aids I have decided to approach training this winter in a semi scientific way. I cannot afford a spangly Garmin so I wondered if any of you kind folk could recommend a heart rate monitor? Dont really want to spend anymore than £100

I use a Sigma PC-15, which I find has all the applications I need (three HR zones, av and max HR, KCal + laps, time elapsed, etc., etc.). It hasn't let me down and I would thoroughly recommend, especially as it will leave you plenty of change out of £100.0

I've got the above. Seems to work well.
I wish it had cadance now though, so it might be worth finding one with it now if you ever think that will interest you.
(Any reccommendations for something as above with cadance?!)0 -
Sorry, didn't mean to confuse you. Heart rate is split into zones (as a % of your maximum output), depending on age, weight, etc. Average will be your average output over a period. KCal measures the (theoretical) amount of calories you burn off during a ride (based e.g. on av heartrate output x time). No doubt others could explain this better than me.0

Have a look on amazon for the foreunner 305 (the one with hrm). Price changes all the time - currently £140, but it was down to £115.More problems but still living....0

I've had the Polar CS200CAD for over a year. It's reasonable, although there are a couple of issues with it. Firstly, I find that the distance reading at the end of a ride is unreliable. I can do exactly the same training ride on different days and end up with +/-10% difference in total distance. Secondly, the speed sensor fits on the front fork and, therefore, is of no use on a turbo. I have a Polar CS300 and they can be bought from Amazon for less than £100. You can add cadence function later, by buying an extra sensor. I like the facility for connecting the wrist unit to a PC (via microphone) to upload to web, which keeps a record of training and max HR, average HR time in zone, above zone and in zone can be looked at more easily etc.
