Just incase anyone is planning a trip up on to Whinlatter (Cumbria) in the next couple of days, might be worth giving it a miss. There is 6" of snow up there at the moment, and the conditions make even driving up to the visitor centre difficult.

I was up there for an hour today and made little progress. Got some impressive pictures though! Will post pics later :)

Pain in the arse ain't it? Just tried to do my usual Sunday morning run today and gave up after 8 miles. Pish!!

  • going up to the lake district tommorrow for a week and hoped to go riding at Whinlatter - not taking my bike so two questions

Whats is the weather forcast for the next seven days and will there be any snow left or will there be a fresh layer on top?

I know I can hire a bike from the bike shop (been there b4) but will the shop be open?

    Thanks

  • A weather warning is just missing the Lake District so it might be snow, cold and iced up for the next few days.

Yep, snow and ice is a real pain. Almost 3 weeks since I did a proper ride on any bike.

  • I went up to Whinlatter again yesterday and the road had cleared a bit, but there was still plenty of snow on the trails. Recon you could put a short route in (the sections in the trees are slightly better). The bike shop was open yesterday, so you should still be able to hire a bike if you want to brave it.

I'm going to leave it a few days now before going back up there. Friday I recon - early - when everyone else is hungover. Haha.
  • North trail is (just about) rideable now. Still lots of snow and ice, but with use this has compacted on the trail. Had some friends ride it a couple of days ago and they got round. Recon I'm up there tomorrow afternoon :)
  • I did it on Wednesday last week. North Loop was fun, south was a 5 mile push.
