Delivery costs

Bought a down vest from welovemountains last week via the internet and was charged £10 delivery. When it arrived they had just wrapped it in a bin liner, gaffer taped it up and stuck £2.14 worth of second class stamps on it. As it turns out the vest was too big so when I called to ask if they'd exchange it they said that'd be fine, but I had to spend £10 on special delivery returning it...and that it'd cost me a further £10 for them to resend the new item. In a bin bag. For £2.14.
Does that sound a bit dodgy to anyone else?
Any advice from traders/consumers with similar experiences greatly appreciated.

£10 sounds like a lot for postage when most places do it for free, or for a couple of quid next-day, but you agreed to pay it in the first place. I assume they didn't make any promises as to how they would send it?
As for the return, assuming you mean you ordred the wrong size, and not that they sent you a different size to what you ordered, they are well within their rights to charge you a second time for postage. It is after all, your mistake, not theirs.
You can try and argue about the postage with them if you want, but I suspect they'll justify it by saying that the £10 is to cover their time and packing materials in addition to the £2.14 worth of stamps.
This kind of thing was a common tactic amongst certain Ebay sellers, it allowed them to jack up the price of an item and not have to pay fees, but Ebay are clamping down on it now (apparently).0 -
Did you order from their website or from eBay, price is a total rip off but unfortunately you greed with it so not much you can do. Although too late now you should have just sent back recorded delivery 1st class which would have been about £2.89 based on original costs, they would have then refunded you full amount including delivery charges. Due to long distance selling regulations you can send the item back without any excuse i.e. wrong size etc.
