  • Nice, I may get some of those Carbon/Ti skewers.
  • Save more grams by ditching the skewer springs and cutting down the length of the bolts at the top of the brakes.

    Not needed IMO.

I know a few weight weenies. One guy only has a front brake, no back one. He even got rid of the STI for the rear brake and put on a downtube shifter instead. Someone else stripped off all the pain on his stem, cut the bolts down and trimmed the ends of his drops to shorten them. He also has only one bottle cage, attatched using only one bolt and some tape to compensate.

Some people take this waaaay too far.
  • I have to say i like it when you can save weight with quality items, but do not forget weight needs to be saved on anything that spins on a bike rotational weight etc. i always pay extra for light weight innertubes & tyres. top Planet X bits as usual top buy

Best way to shed weight on the bike is ti shed weight on the rider.

If anything it SAVES you money on food. :)

Really like the fancy skewers and they are a great price for the weight. Had those brakes in the past too - quality item.

    well said...

I've lost 7lbs off the combined weight of bike and rider in the last few weeks - and it hasn't cost me a penny....only another 14lbs to go before the start of next season...
  • Still got some way to go to catch this featherweight...

    I weighed the QR's
old front 84g new front 44g
old rear 89g new rear 48g

    thus saving me 80g

calipers as per planet x 205g on the nose.

fitted calipers today, the old 105's wieghed in at 360g's so for 99 quid my total wieght saving is 235g as I saved 155g alone with the calipers, not bad :D

If you spent another £30 on Ti Sticks QR's, you'd have saved another 45g

Bhima, sure these are friends, and not just you chucking ideas out there, to gauge reactions!?...

You could also suggest your friends visit their dentists to have their fillings removed

Yeah, they are good friends, one being a tr*athlete, I try not to be seen with him though.

I've heard all the weight-saving jokes imaginable from such people, like cutting toenails to reduce rotational weight and having a haircut before a big race. My favourite quote from a weight weenie is "castration will save me 2 watts at 25mph - i'll prove it to you one day".

    Was that a Thoork saddle?

Fitted new saddle today old one weighed in at 380g's the new one 140g's thus saving me 240g's

If that's the Thoork's actual weight I'd like to see pictures on a scale, everyone I've seen has not been 140g - more like 150g in reality

I just fitted my new skewers and Ultralight CNC brakeset.
The SRAM Force I removed weighed 285g, compared to the 205g for the CNC brakes.
A bit of faffing about with the set up... No destructions!
Will need a nice dry day, to put the bike on the road and check all is well, then.
It was the first time I've touched my 'Best' bike since October... Wow! It feels so light, I just wanted to take it out, then and there!
I may stick a couple of photos up, later, when I have time.
