Hi - I am in the process of buying a new Sram X9 deraillieur and I dont know what length cage is on my bike (was going to just replace like for like). I have checked Gary Fishers site (I have a 2008 Hoo Koo E Koo) and all they list is Sram X9. Does it matter if I dont get the same one...and while I am at it why would you not go for as short as possible to aid clearance?

Please read the FAQ. Most likely you need a long if you have a triple chainset.0

Thanks - I did a search first and nothing came up but I didnt check the FAQ's (didnt think my stupid question would be that frequently asked) - that post does the job though - thanks for pointing me to it.0

It has to be a SRAM X- mech though if you have SRAM X- shifers (ie X5, X7, X9 - you can mix and match the numbers as well)0

Going to go for the Sam X9 long cage - I have Sram X7 shifters. These work fine so no nbeed to replace - the deraillieur has just had one knock too many.
I dont suppose you have any idea of how I find out what mech hanger I need do you?0 -
It is special to the frame, though some brands use the same ones. Best to contact the dealer, or check ebay or a company called BETD.0

the mech on the stock picture looks like a long cage nd for the most part, a long cge is best for a triple crankset setup.
my stumpjumper and enduro both have triple chainsets but both came with medium cage mechs though.0
