If I ever spend another Christmas in this country I think I will top myself
Seriously considering going abroad to do some cycling over the festive period next year.
Would a cycling trip to Mallorca (or any other warm location) over the Christmas period be recommended?

its not that hot this time of year and it can be awful rain - my sisters in laws own property there and last year they came home cos it was too wet and cold, (9 degree and raining there today, at least its 5 and sunny in leeds!)
canary islands or cyprus this time of year for sunshine cycling, even then it not guaranteed0 -
Tough call, you'd hope for it to be better that here. The Tour of Mallorca starts on 1st February and the weather can be good for that - as the picture shows. Prices could be quite low at that time.
Tuscany is also supposed to have a Winter "micro-climate", and lots of pro teams train there, although I've only been there is April and September, see link below.
Overall Mr Northern is right in saying that the best bets for Xmas and New Year period are probably Lanzarote, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Cyprus if you want to give yourself the best odds. Claudio Chiappucci was running an early season training camp in Gran Canaria - don't know if he still does.

Spooky! I just flew back from Mallorca today (30th) having had a week out there. Yes, it rained a couple of days so we went out in the car but Boxing day in the rain is rubbish anywhere. The good news was we rode 100km+ per day for four days and that included the mountains (the descent from Puig Major > Soller was cold). Temperatures were approx 13 deg.C when we got there and yesterday (29th) the car thermometer showed 23.5 deg C at 3pm when we got back (It was 14.5 deg C at 7.15am on the return to the airport). Some of the pro-riders are out there at the moment (Milram particularly) and they passed us going the opp.way to Bunyola. We stayed in the small town of Pollenca (not the port!) but the south of the island is often slightly warmer. Anyway, I was riding in s/sleeves and kneewarmers whilst Britain froze and I did it for you
Really tho' you have to go south of the Med to get the real heat eg Canaries/S.Africa/Australia or West to FloridaM.Rushton0
