Hi folks, Merry Christmas to you all.

Just wondering if anyone knows who is doing the best deal on a Super Record groupset at the moment, thanks a lot.

By the way Nap, thats another nice frame you have, well done.

  • I've been looking for one too.

The best deal i've seen has been for £1300 on ebay with a Super Record seatpin included too.

I actually used the guy before and met him in person when i bought my Zonda's. Nice bloke and good price, but obviously you take your chances.

Other than that. The best price i've seen has been "shiny bikes" http://www.shinybikes.com/bikes/campagn ... -2009.html

I think you're better off buying the individual componets from either Ribble or Merlin as they are discounted at the moment. Their discounts don't apply to whole groupsets (Merlin is offering 5%), so you can spec a complete gruppo for less than £1250.

Cheers AP, i dont know if i am being thick but when i addedd the g/set together with Merlin it came to £1329.88 just as if you buy the groupset?

No, it's me being thick, I can't add up. If you get everything bar the cassette from Ribble (cassette from Merlin) it comes to £1298, but I realised you were after the 12-29 which I don't think is available yet.
  • APII, you excited me for a minute there. LOL.

Beetle, what price did Mike offer you? (even knowing it wasn't the right cassette). I never knew about the 12-29.....now im tempted by those ratios too.

Hello Tollers, i think Mike said for cash £1250ish but obviously the 12/27 is of no use to me and also you wont have warranty etc. Its worth bearing that in mind as my last 10 speed Record chainset had problems with the surface metal on the chainrings which had to be sent back to the shop where purchased and then to the uk supplier who then had to wait for the 'new' 'better' rings being sent from Italy and it just happened to be in the summer factory shutdown which meant i was without the bike from early summer til September! Not good but could have been worse without warranty so i suppose you pay your money and take your chance.
  • Beetle. I just ordered my components seperately from Ribble, Merlin and Cyclesportsuk.co.uk

Cyclesports have chainsets for £359.77 (only shows that price when you add to basket)

That allowed me to get the cost to about 1280 including an 11-25 casette.

    Hope this helps
  • I built a table and did internet searches for each individual component

    Best prices were:

    Chainset - Cyclestore - 359.77
    Rear Mech - Ribble - 204.52
    Front Mech - Ribble - 91.16
    BB Cups - Ribble 12.76
    Shifters - Merin - 233.95
    Chain - Ribble - 32.36
    Casette (11-25) Merlin - 187.15
    Brakes - Ribble - 165.56

    Hi all
if anybody is contemplating buying a Campagnolo SRec, Rec or Chorus 11, contact Michael Lau on 07527893022. I have bought two groupsets from him recently and you will not find a better deal. He's a real gentleman and someone you can trust. You can mention me, Michael from North Yorks as a reference if you want.

Well, is he a bike dealer or what? Has he a bike shop or does he sell them from a suitcase on a street corner? Just wondered ...

Honestly i don't know the answer to that question.

I have bought from him before and as he lives a few miles from me, he came over to drop off my Zonda's. He's a thorughly nice bloke and from talking to him, i'd say he's a keen cyclist with a few industry contacts.

His ebay ID is ksl300 http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/ksl300/

Personally, in the January sales, i was able to buy my super record groupset for the same prices as individual items from different retailers, so i went that way for peice of mind on such a huge investment. However Mike has 100% good feedback on ebay and the Zonda's have definitely been my best purchase.

You could also mention me....Mark from HK. Say we both recommended him and you might get a few more quid off. If in doubt, ask him what guarantee it comes with and im sure he'll honour his word.

Beetle. Did you go for the Super Record then? Im building up a Scott CR1 with mine this weekend.

  • Why does my mind wander onto other things when I see leopard skin?

Anyway - nice bike: enjoy the shakedown ride!

Is the saddle tilted up that much when you're riding it?

That photo was yesterday before the bike had been on the road. I've been playing with the set-up this morning and saddle is now level.

The leopard skin wasn't my choice. Ladlord supplied the furniture.....but it does make me want a girl in pink velour tracksuit to go with it.

Nout wrong with CR1, but a better frame with Chorus would have probably have given a better "bang for buck"

Just for edjucational purposes what would you class as a better frame?
The Cr1 maybe a common or popular frame but i would guess there is more than a few reasons for that.........And no i havent got one  although i do own a scott scale and i couldnt fault it and i have had many many quality MTB,s :D

  • AN Addict  how comfortable are they over a long ride? i was looking at them in my local bike shop the other week and the guy there who i must admit rides MTB said they are a lot less comfy?? i might ask for some sort of test ride soon.

I think the CR1 is a damn high quality frame. Super light with less racy geometry than the addict, but ultimately pretty much the same. I thought about the Addict SL, but i worry about anything SL not being able to take me putting the power down. Too many stories of broken BBs

I originally considered the Wiliier Izoard, but at 3x the price i might as well wait and save for the dogma. I already had the groupset cheap in the Jan sales, so now have a pretty damn good bike for fairweather sunday runs until i can afford a big brand italian frame.

I took it out for a ride this morning around london with guys from another bike forum and it was certainly the nicest bike i've ever ridden. No regrets on my side. I wasn't even tempted by chorus. If i'm going to get a new frame in 6 months, then i dont want to be upgrading the frame AND the groupset.
