the calipers are ok - the pads are shite. Swapping the pads for something decent makes a huge difference. Still nowhere near as good as the Force calipers on my best bike, but perfectly ok for general riding...0 -

He's asking about a £50 upgrade. Not a £300 upgrade.
i was aware of that.
but imo ,if your going to upgrade, upgrade. cant see the point in swapping ,what in reality is like for like. if you cant afford decent ones ,save your money put up with what you got until you can afford the real thing.
also, cannot really see the point in buying a bike and then upgrading the bits on it before you`ve even recieved said machine. you may as well just better buy a better bike in the first place.constantly reavalueating the situation and altering the perceived parameters accordingly0 -

....You really have read very little of this tread.
I have got the Boardman via CSW - I wanted a decent frame and groupset to build up on.
So I got the Boardman Carbon Frame & Rival Groupset for £550... Other parts will be sold and will offset the cost of the upgraded parts (No bike under £2k would come with EA90 SL's or the Zipp Carbon Bar/Stem combo....)
So If I spent £1.5k on a none C2W bike, I would have ended up with less bike for more money....Simple maths...
Mine: Bike £550 + £400 upgrades = £950
Also I will sell the wheels/crank/brakes/finishing kit and get say £200 for the lot on ebay.
So £950 - £200 = £750 for a decent carbon frame with EA90 SL, Sipp Bar/Stem, FSA Carbon Crank. Not bad tbh.0 -

no, you dont get it. you cant make a £2000 bike by upgrading the bits.
the boardman frame you`ve bought offers outstanding value for money in its price range. but it does`nt matter what you do with it ,its never going to ride like a c40.
so imo dont bother even trying. buy what you can afford and stick with it.constantly reavalueating the situation and altering the perceived parameters accordingly0 -
I think your still missing the point....
Im not trying to make it a 2k bike, im trying to make it the best bike for the money.
Please name another, brand new £750 bike that will be better specced than that?
Now do you see what im trying to do? I have spend £200 extra, and it will ride much better (mainly due to the wheels) than a stock bike.
Hell, my Trek 1.5 cost £700, and is much, much, much worse specced.0 -
Makes sense to me squill - it will be a fantastic bike for £950 - the wheels especially will make for a far better ride.0

how does he know what it will ride like? apart from a couple pounds weight the frame is out of same mould as the race prepared boardman pro at £3299 which quoted as a lot of bike and head and shoulders above the rest. it wont feel a million miles different.0
