Continental Race King 2.2 for me. Maybe something slightly grippier up front.0

My current off road tyres are hutchinson toro 2.1 and there awesome!
On my last bike I had nobby nicks 2.1 and they were as good and cheaper (£30 the pair posted- high on bikes- ebay!)
I left my commuting tyres on the other day (race kings 2.0) they were like banana skins lol0 -
You won't go wrong with Maxxis Advantage or High Rollers. Great value compared to some stuff out there and work well. Go for the 2.1's for normal use - the wider 2.35's are very heavy, especially in the softer compounds.0

Right then.....
What do you mean by 'all round'? Do you ride trail centres? Local bridleways? Tow paths? Rocky natural trails? Woodland stuff with slippy roots? Muddy stuff? Road? And how much of each? 10 minutes of road for a 4 hour ride in thick mud means a very different tyre to a 50/50 split between road and hardpack/gravel trails.
Do you want more speed at the expense of grip, or is a big heavy grippy tyre okay with you?
Do you suffer from a lot of punctures? What have you got at the moment? How do you find them? :P0 -
yes sorry i wasent more clear about what i wanted ill be going down cycle tracks that lead to muddy sections(its the hull to hornsea track) and hopefully it will be used for trail centers next year.i would like the tyres to roll well and more importantly keep me upright¬0

Okay, it's just that people tend to shout their current favourite tyre, so you end up with suggestions for wet-weather freeride tyres, summer XC race tyres and everything in between.
Something like a Maxxis Advantage/High Roller, Schwalbe Nobby Nic or Panaracer Fire XC Pro seems right. Probably in a 2.1", although, I do similar riding to you and over the summer used a 2.25" Schwalbe Racing Ralph which I thought were excellent. Depending on just how muddy it is, you might want to consider the Bontrager Mud X, which is very highly rated for wet weather riding off road, but you'll lose some speed on the firmer ground/on road.0 -
Kenda Nevegals are another one, they're not all that fast but they can cope with any surface bar really deep thick mud. And Highrollers of course. Nobby Nics are supposed to be allrounders but IMO they don't measure up in the mud.Uncompromising extremist0

+1 for Nevegals. I'm on yet another set and, at the moment, I can't see me switching to anything else in the near future TBH.Winter: Moda Nocturne

I ended up switching the rear to an Excavator, which is just a Nevegal Only More So- slightly grippier, slightly slower, slightly tougher. Not that there's anything wrong with the Nevegal there for that matter but the Excavator's just that wee bit better at mud. I'm a comfort braker so I like a really grippy rear tyreUncompromising extremist0

Panaracer fire xc pros 2.1 for me they beat nevegals hands down.
There good on snow and ice too
You want all round fast rolling tyre thats good with mud get these beauty's.
They come in different colours too.
El Cap endorses the pink variety :roll:0 -
I run a kenda excavator back telonix up front, for sheer grip you won't find better but at a cost of rolling resistance so if you're a whippet not a problem.
There's a roundup in wmb and the top ones seem to be.
Maxxis minion
Specialized storm
Conti rubber queens.
The telonix was the gippiest in the test but like i said they drag a bit.
Im very surprised they didn't have nobby nics there, excellent all rounder imo, bonty mud-x gets a vote as well, very grippy especially when it turns sour. The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Oh yeah, those rubber queens, as soon as my kidney sells on ebay I fancy giving those a try now that there's a 2.2 black chiliUncompromising extremist0

'd vote for the Spesh Captain controls aswell, ive just changed from them to a pair of Spesh Eskar's.. The captains are brilliant for most conditions, light, really good value (for £40, you could find the pair, with folding bead, dual compound, and a tyre designed by Ned Overend)..0

Highroller 2.35 or 2.5 singleply maxxpro 60aI like bikes and stuff0

Panaracer Fire XC Pro.
[/thread]0 -
I hear that they have discontinued the panaracer fire xc pros, which I have been using. Anyone know if this is true and why? I have found them excellent. There are still some around to buy so I may buy the same again but does anyone have any recommendations on a similar tyre? Somthing for trail centres and general xc on a hardtail.

Are Panaracer Fire XC different to XC Pro?
If not, then Merlin have them for a pretty good price - £23.95/pair:

Sprockets are cheapest i think?
£19.99

Seems there is a difference, i think the pros are folding? and lighter?2009 Kona Blast Deluxe - W.I.P Started...

Sorry, didn't explain what I meant. I ordered Fire XC's (although not from Merlin) and the tyres that turned up say XC Pro on them. They do however definately have a steel, non folding bead.
Oh, and the Merlin price was for 2 tyres.0 -
Sorry, my bad, thats awsome, didnt see the "pair" bit, though it looks like they have a yellow edge, bit garish, and others give you a choice of edge colours, some will be more bothered than others.2009 Kona Blast Deluxe - W.I.P Started...
