I have a few little bits and pieces to fit to my Giant Yukon FX over the Crimbo break and was wondering fthere were any serious pitfalls I should look out for....

Hope Mini front and rear brakes (now I've sourced the correct No 5 calliper half), XT rear mech, shifters and cables, Hope discs, HG50 9 speed rear sprocket & Sram chain.

Was a bit disappointed with the operation of the Sram gears and Tektra manual brakes compared to the old Deore/XT stuff on my 10+ year old Marin Nail Trail so thought I'd spend a few quid (I know....should have bought a better spec bike in the 1st place!!!)

I'm more than mechanically competent, usualy working on my motorbikes, but just wondered of there were any glaring problems that may jump out at me before I start (apart frm freezing in the garage!)

Cheers
Neil

Assuming you have appropriate tools (cassette ring tool, allen keys, chain whip, beers, chain tool).

A decent set of cable cutters can make cutting cables easier.

Grease on bolts you want to be able to undo (cassette & lock ring, shifters, mechs, brake levers) and threadlock on bolts you don't want to accidently come undone (disc rotor bolts).

    Oil cables

Sorry if that's all the obvious stuff.
  • Not obvious, as I've not worked on pushbikes for years and dont fancy knackering expemsive bits n bobs, so cheers Dave.

Fairly well stocked garage, tool wise, and the specialist bits are being blagged from my brother (been a lycra fiend for years and has more bikes than he know's what to do with)...there is also a handy crate of Peroni in the corner should I need a sit down moment and a think!
