Had loads of bits laying around, nearly enough for a full bike and I've always admired Planet X carbon frames. Not trying to be something they are not, even though I bet there are some top end manufacturers passing these off as their own.

I've got one of these frames on its way :) What size frame did you get?

No barrel adjusters with the frame? And did it come with a headset or did you have to get one?

    Cheers
  • Hi ravey,

Nope, no barrel adjusters. It was only half way through the build I noticed and with Christmas looming I've ended up getting a set from a LBS.

I got the headset from Wiggle, the only white FSA headset they had left, there may have been a re-stock since.

    My frame is a Large.

    Cheers.

hmm thats annoying...but i still have loads of bits to get so its not the end of the world...

Is there just one type of integrated headset? what should I be looking for?

Yours looks nice as a large, i'm a bit worried my medium will look too small if you know what i mean...
  • No, this is it

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/FSA_O ... 360038573/

It has 45 degree bearings (whatever that means).

I must admit, the large frame looks the best for all the angles being "right". Its 10mm longer than my other frames but I've offset that by using the short-reach deda bars.

I'm hoping to have it finished this week, might even get a ride in THIS YEAR!

    Cheers

I found one on the planet-x shop (you'd never have thought it would you  ) which is exactly the same....got some barrel adjusters while I was at it...

I've promised myself I'm going to take this build slowly...and hence spread the cost...i bet I dont stick to it...

If you've got snow like we have you wont be riding...8 inches of the stuff :(
  • Whats the saddle like? always wondered about those ones on wiggle going cheaply

    Hi Sparrowlegs

I have just got a new planet x frame in white like yours as i couldnt resist the 20% off. In your opinion would you say that yours was well finished. The paint job on my frame is very good but around the top of the seat tube the carbon is very uneven and will need a file to sort it out before the seat clamp goes on. Also it doesnt have the same finish as other carbon frames, the surface around the bb and head tube is a little rippled and uneven and has the impression there is filler being used . Its a shame as the quality of the forks is outstanding if only the frame was of the same quality and finish. I guess i cant expect too much for £320 but i was hoping the quality would compare to a least a Boardman carbon frame but its unfortunately a lot lower than that.
  • Clockworkali - I'd say the finish is standard for this price on a frame.

I had to file the seat tube on the inside as it marked my seatpost when I tried putting it in. Looked like there was a rough edge on the inside, once smoothed off with a file all was ok.

The only thing that really stands out is the writing on the seat tube is missing some parts on one side so it looks more like SUPER_Ghr PRO CARB N. Not happy with that but everything else seems fine. I've seen worse finish on frame double this price and it's only a light winter/parts bin build for me so I'm ok with it.

Squillinossett - Seat looks bob-on and goes with the build really well. From what I've ridden, and it's only a very short ride so far, it seems really hard. It has the same measurements as my other saddles and was cheap so ticked all the boxes but in reality it's looking like I'll either be swapping out to an old saddle or I'll be on the hunt again.

HTH fellas, any other info you need just ask.

  • Thanks Sparrowleggs,

The top of the seat tube on my medium frame where the black alu collar sticks out is very uneven so i will have to file the white part of the frame so the clamp sits nice. Was thinking about returning it as i don't want to void the warranty but there are no more in stock. I was quite surprised at just how light the frame is.
If anybody is thinking of getting a frame its worth knowing the small frame only has 1 bottle mount and you cant even get a 750 bottle in to it.
