Hi All, I hope this is the right section!!!!

I've got a ye olde Scott Windriver MTB and thinking of updating it a bit...

At the moment it is completely original

I was thinking of a Frame and Forks upgrade and keeping the groupset and wheels?

But I just dont know enough about it all to realistically know what I should do?

Any help, clues etc would be great thanks

How does £300-400 sound or is that madness as I could get the equivalent [<--spelling] bike from new?

£400 will get you something decent especially this time of year with the sales.

£150 for a frame, and £200 for forks?

I guess it depends whayou already have.
400 quid will get you a very capable xc bike, 100mm of damped travel, hydro discs, 27 speed transmission.

However, if you've already got discs, nice wheels and a decent transmission, then you could hang them off a very nice frame and some very, very nice forks.

With my retro head on a scott sidewinder's groupset is going to be fairly old and therefore not really comparable to the advances of todays equipment. I'd go for new bike with the best frame and forks you can get. Moving from a retro bike to a modern even the basic groupsets will feel amazing so get yourself the best platform to upgrade for the future.

That's my 2ps worth anyway

To be honest you'd be better selling the bike as is and looking for something a little newer to spend your money on.

    200 for forx.
    150 for disk wheels
    250 for a new frame
    150 for new brakes

you still wont have a bike thats as good as anything around the 600- 800 quid mark and you'll need to budget 100-150 for other parts which simply don't fit. seat post, stem, bb,

If you check on http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/shimano-groupsets/doere-590-disc-groupset-mt15-factory-wheels.html they have a deore groupset, wheels included for £300
So that could be a very good starting point.
