I can't find anywhere close to me, where I can go and physically touch/see these machines.
Seeing the Sylvias with £300 off, so only about £100 more than the Gaggia is very tempting.
Evidentally, Rancilio Sylvia is a sturdier build quality, too.
 OMG, I almost fell off the fence, then...

Gonna start another post on recommended Barista books...

    EDIT:
Should I also consider a barista set, or just buy all the bits seperately?

Just to throw my tuppence worth in:

I got the Rancilio Silvia and Rocky combo from Drury something like 6 years ago and they have worked a treat. They haven't been designed within an inch of their life, but are practical and functional - dead easy to keep clean.

Getting decent coffee obviously makes a big difference, but if you live near Monmouth Coffee then you're home dry on that one...

Thanks Phil, just about to buy the Silvia. Not sure I can justify the Rocky, though!
Probably go for the Starbucks, a rebadged Dual-It!

We buy our roasted beans from www.hasbean.co.uk . Definitely worth a look if you are in the market for fresh coffee. There is a large selection of coffee from around the world, full cupping notes, etc. Great service and fast delivery. You can buy green beans, roasted beans or ground. Beans are roasted at time of purchase so pretty much as fresh as you'll get short of having a home roaster.

We used to have Classic but upgraded to an Izzo Vivi a couple of years ago. The Classic was a great starter machine (we had it for about 3 years) but the Vivi is something else! Also agree that a grinder is a good purchase (have a Mazzer Mini, which has also been a fantatsic buy).

I use a KitchenAid burr grinder but the Gaggia is supposed to be OK. Some good info at the Happy Donkey website www.happydonkey.co.uk
The Jura bean>cup machine is rated v.highly. Really it's a matter of (expensive) trial and error. My beans come from www .e-coffee.co.uk and the owner roasts the beans himself
