At 17:47 exactly, for your information.
So, if you happen to be riding your "summer" bike at this time, simply radio the team car and have your mechanic bring you the spare winter bike.

The sub-zero temperatures and foot of snow we've had in the last 2 weeks beg to differ."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

On the bright side it's also the day with the least amount of day light hours, so from now until the 21st of June you get an extra 2 minutes of daylight each day0

That's an average of 2 minutes a day, you'll barely notice it for the first few days. It's also asymmetric, in that sunrise will continue to get later for another week, but sunset has been getting later for a few days already.
The day is actually nearly 11 hours longer on midsummer's day round here, you can read outside at midnight on a clear night, and we're nowhere near the real far north - the sun is only down for half an hour on midsummer's night at the northern tip of Shetland. The flipside is that in winter, it can be very, very dark - barely light at 9am here this morning with a few clouds over, and it's pitch dark before 4pm. Again, much worse in the far north; look at a globe or atlas and you'll see how close the Shetlands get to the Arctic circle.

You may call it winter but I think, after all the recent offs, cyclists really should call it the fall0
