Hi all i have previously posted for advice on the 2010 Orange Crush and today i went int my lbs to try and take a decent look at one and maybe even treat myself !only to be told that he has just sold the one he had in stock last week and cant get anymore untill march

He then told me how good he thought the orange P7 pro was and started to tempt me towards one ,however its been a long time since i had a steel frame mountain bike and im not sure if i should go that route so please could you give me any thoughts on this matter

and does any one know what the P7 OR P7 pro weighs in at ??

Thanks

    Test ride a P7 to see if you like it 8)

    Weight for the P7 S is about 30 lbs.

    it sounds cynical i know but when a man hasnt got what you want and offers you advice for something else, bear in mind he is in the business of selllng things to people.

    if you want a crush, get one of those. the p7 is an unecessarily heavy trail bike and always has been. i dont see the point in a long travel fork on a bike with a steep head angle normally associated with an xc bike. as soon as you put your brakes on, your already steep head angle will steepen further leaving you feeling quite awkward

    this is just my opinion of course and the last p7 i owned was a 2007 model. it was bloomin rubbish. there have been chnges since then so they might be different but the numbers dont lie.
  • It all depends what you want to do with it and where/how you ride. If you spend all day in the saddle peddling across country admiring the view, Get a P7 Pro (the S comes with rubbish rock shox). If you like to go a crazy and are a bit of a trail-centre junkie, get a Crush. I rode both at a demo day at my local bike shop ( Kudu Bikes ) recently and they're completley different.

    The P7 has a longer folk and has a head angle of 69, the R8 is 71 and has a shorter folk. So I wouldn't say the P7 had a steep head angle.

    i would
  • True, the P7 does have a steeper head angle than the Crush, but not steeper than other bikes in its class, however, these are two very different bikes, designed for different uses. I haven’t ridden a Crush, but the P7 I rode felt instantly comfortable.

    i cant be bothered to go and look but id wager they are all slacker than 69 degrees.

    Depends on the fork height - the angle doesn't really mean much without it. The soul is listed as 70 degrees, but that is with a 100mm fork and 25mm of sag, so static at 140mm are looking at 67 degrees.

    Some prefer a steeper HA anyway, the 456 is quite steep at 68.5 degrees with a 150mm fork.

    i know all of the above.

    as i mentioned, the p7 (obv with a 140mm fork) is a steep bike compared to its competition (someof which crosses over into crush territory)

    soul= about 67 deg

    456= about 68.5 deg

    blue pig= 67.5

    genesis altitude= 70.3 with a 120mm fork and is reported to be a bit twitchy, i wonder if a better HA would solve this?

    cove handjob= 68 degrees.

    turns out i could be bothered.

    Seems 69 at 140 is in the 456 and Genesis territory lol.

    Many do relax the angles, especially if they are likely to get more abuse - but some like a longer fork and quicker handling for not so downhill oriented antics. Horses for courses as they say!

    I would say the crush is the better of the two.
