I'm only 30 miles off my target for this year and it's not looking good :(

Apparently -4 here last night. When I walked to the shop at 10.30 this morning the paths were all iced up.. came back over them an hour later and still trecherous. Feel sorry for the old dears.

Just did 4 miles towing kids on a sledge in the snow on my MTB - round and round the field..... good training...like doing a 4 mile climb....low ratio, with sprints built in as the other kids tried to catch us....

No more commutes for me - finished for Christmas, but looks like road rides are out...just had a stack of snow in Manchester, and it's set to freeze. Looks very pretty though.
  • i would actually love to ride in -4 but i don't want to come across ice lol

It's sunny in North Wales, hopefully I'll be riding tomorrow.

  • Thought I would be fine going out yesterday on a bike with knobbly tyres. It was fine to begin with...until I hit some ice, and came off three times within the space of a few hundred yards. Well, I suppose there are some things you just have to try once in your life (or not at all, if you're sensible...)

If the road surface is very smooth not even knobblies will grip. They need something to stick into.

    Good question.
As if the weather isn't bad enough I've got a puncture or otherwise underinflated tyre on three (out of three) bikes !

I was counting on two weeks of holidays to get some decent training in. And then the weather came. Grrrrrrrrr

It's not the cold - it's the snow and ice and drivers on the roads that can't drive in snow.

Turbo will be getting the brunt of the work the next little while.
  • North Manchetser is as bad as south. 4 inches lying in Oldham and bitterly cold. I'm working solidly through christmas and I've no idea how I'll be geting to a major road I can use. Gritting has been an utter joke this year, I think they've been taken completely by surprise

10 mile walks beckon - great for a 7am start

i was pushing my luck for 40 miles in notts yesterday. i forgot about the steel rails on the train crossing but luckily managed to wrench the bars up hard enough to find some grip the other side, slipped an inch to the side but kept her wheelside up(or down). i was well clenched afterwards. i think thats it for me this year. i could have ripped my new tights and jacket.

I'm hoping to get at least one ride in, but it depends on weather conditions, it hailed all day today. I was out walking the dog in that and I was having to shield me face from the hail.

Managed a 70miler today. All A-roads tho, except thru Clumber Park & that was Torvill & Dean territory. It snowed pretty hard a few times but within 2 mins of getting home it came down properly & the roads would've been a total no-go area.

It was -2.5 when we set off & I christened some new gloves, toasty fingers all the way round.

Gonna have a day at Dalby a week tommorow all being well.

    Here's to 2010!

got a new bike, so had to go out yesterday. Managed 1 mile yesterday morning before I realised what a knob I was being.

Went for a run followed by a family work (all in a sulk)!

Then managed 10 mile on major roads later, not pleasant, but enough to realise I love the new bike!
