Hi,
Have you used accommodation in Fort William you'd recommend?
I'm looking for something for me and three friends in Sept 2010 for 3-4 days (over a weekend). I'm thinking maybe self catering, maybe B&B, but definitely something where the mountain bikes will be secure and locked away..

The Youth Hostel has a place to lock up bikes and is obviously pretty cheap.

QFT, have stayed here and it was decent. Also camped at nevis range site, good facilities there too.

If you want B&B, I stayed here:

It's fantastic... Inexpensive (they've basically dropped a star because of one of the rooms not being quite up to standard, but the others are all worth another star), DVD players and ensuite in the rooms (at least in my room), spacious too... They've got a drying room, and they let me stash the bike in the garage- which wasn't very secure but got it out of sight and out of the rain. Really good people too, and the food's fantastic. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast, mmmmmmmmm.

The only downside is that it's at the other end of fort william from nevis range so adds a few miles on, if you're riding out. And it's not really in the town so there's a bit of a walk in should you want to (though Fort William itself is pretty rubbish)

The Lime Tree's supposed to be good for bikers too. But I'll be staying at Torlinnhe again next year for sure.

Before you set dates, check with nevis range and make sure the lifts will be taking bikes! 11th and 12th will have limited uplifts due to a DH race, and I don't know when the season runs to next year but last year that was the last weekend. And tbh there's not enough there if the lifts are closed to justify the trip.

  • Great, thanks guys.
I'll check out the youth hostels and the B&B.
My friends and I are doing the No Fuss event, so I think it would be handy to be near the Nevis range.
    Thanks for the replies

What ever you do don't stay at the Best Western in fort william it's the pits, we stayed there in Febuary/March of this year. The hole place is crap, one morning not enough staff turned in so no breakfasts were served . Ben Nevis hotel is ok ........ if you have a blue rinse, a good idea is to visit

Hey, which event are you doing? No Fuss have a great rep but I'm a bit put off 10 Under the Ben by the route, and partly the location (midgey as ****) but if I'm not at T in the Park I'll be at 10 at Kirroughtree...

That Tour De Ben Nevis looks quality... Probably a bit too much distance for me but a great idea for an event. And they've got loads of other stuff that weekend, triathlons... Very cool.
